Talking Kitchens, Bathrooms & Renovations: Can I Give My Existing Kitchen A ‘Face Lift’ Instead Of Fully Renovating?
“Can I give my existing kitchen a ‘Face Lift’ instead of fully renovating?” is probably one of the most common questions people ask when they come into our showroom or ring us up.
The simple fact is, partially renovating a kitchen or giving it a facelift, means what you’re doing is putting new benchtops in an old kitchen or putting new doors on the old kitchen.
However, what they don’t realise, with the amount of work involved in doing that, they might as well go ahead and buy a new kitchen and be done with it.
Is A Face Lift Worth The Time And Money?
When those people come into our showroom, I normally say to them, “You’re better off leaving your money in your pocket. Don’t go spending any money for a year or two until you’re ready to do the whole thing and then do it properly.”
The reason for this is that most of the money is in the doors and the stone and all of the associated works involved in fitting those things. So there’s not a lot of merit or benefit to a person in just putting new doors and benchtops on an existing old frame.
Plus, quite obviously, you’re not necessarily improving the configuration of the layout, and you’re not necessarily making the kitchen work better for you. It’s purely a cosmetic shift but at about 60-65% of the cost of a whole new kitchen. In my opinion, that is bad economics.
